The elblag boatlift is a marvelous piece of (Dutch!) 19th century engineering. The five water driven boatlifts span a height of 96 meters. This one alone manages to lift the boats 26 meters.

Dutch Engineering

I am sorry to tell you that the Elblag-boatlift ist no piece of dutch but of german engineering.

Thats weird.

The official canal museum and website list Jacob Georg Steenke as the designer and call him Dutch. Looking on the web he seems to be a prussian instead. I'm no historian, but something weird is going on here. Still stunning engineering, though.
