Dell D630/D830 Touchpad Scolling and Windows 7

Okay. I missed the bit where the touchpad was working, but the all important scroll zones weren’t. I was using a mouse the whole day, sorry about that.

The 64-bit Vista drivers work just fine on Windows 7, the problem is – Dell doesn’t have a specific one for the D630 or the D830 listed. Shame on them, because they use the same part for lots of other laptops.

I tried the Synaptics one first, from the synaptics website, but that didn’t work. Two others flat out refused to install.

A bit of googling revealed that the D430 might work – and it does.

Get it from Dell. The file you should download is called R157047.EXE

    Hy!
Thx for your solution. It worked on my D630 with Win 7 Pro also.
Another question: did you manage to install Quickset on Win 7?

  2. John Carkeet says:

I could not get it to install. The message said that the software would not work on my operating system (Windows 7 Pro 32 bit). I’m still looking for a solution to get my scroll zones to work on my D630.

    Opps…!
Probably should have read where you were talking about the 64 bit drivers first!

Thank you! Lack of spurious touch detection has been my one great frustration with Win7 64bit on my D830. This works great. Thank you so much!

Wll try that driver – otherwise erverything seems good with Windows7 Pr 64 bit on the D830.
Only other problems remain the T-Mobilr datacards and the Cisco VPN which is still a lil’ flakey or not running at all unless it’s in XP Mode.
Best part about Windows 7 – Quick to load and log into domains…
Codecs built in so no extra players required…
Snipping tool – perfect for screen capture!
Oh and it handles docking and re-docking better than Vista!

Thanks for this post, I installed Win 7 Pro (32bit) on my D830 and lost some touchpad functionality.
I installed the 32bit version of this driver (R157047.EXE) and it worked like a charm!

Thank you Pascal – you saved my day with this tip! After 45min frustration, I ran into your blog and voilá – now the touchpad works perfectly with Dell 830 running 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise. Wish this was the default windows driver.

Just found this and happy to say that under Windows 7 64-bit on my Dell D830 this driver is working exactly as I had hoped. Thanks much Pascal for all your research and providing this info! I just don’t understand why Dell wants to make things so difficult for us :(
