Op de voorpagina zelfs.
Het online offerte systeem van CZ bevatte een monumentale blunder, die alle ruim 500.000 aangevraagde
offertes openbaar maakte voor een ieder die de moeite nam ietsje verder te kijken. Ze hadden een redelijk
voordeurslot, maar het raam er naast stond gewoon open. De eerste keer voorpagina nieuws.
Gaaf, maar ook een beetje jammer: CZ heeft bijna een week de kans gehad er iets aan te doen. Ik snap
dat een grote organisatie niet altijd even snel dingen kan repareren, maar zodra iets als dit bekend is moet je
direkt aktie ondernemen. Zoiets gaat snel van mond-tot-mond door het land. Er zullen in Nederland
tienduizenden mensen zijn die met de hint 'Als je het offerte nummer in de link naar de PDF veranderd
op de CZ website, dan kan je ze allemaal bekijken!' niet veel tijd nodig hebt om precies dat te doen.
Het kostte mij vijf hele minuten, waarvan de meeste tijd ging zitten in een dummy offerte aanvragen!
Kudos aan Sander om het te ontdekken, maar daarna kan iedereen het vinden!
Ik weet niet hoe het AD precies aan de getallen gekomen is, maar 55.000 is denk ik aan de krappe kant: Het eerste offerte nummer dat ik kon vinden was 1.100.005 (van december 2005), begin december 2007 stond de teller op 1.606.124: een slordige 500.000. Natuurlijk zullen daar een flink aantal dummy adressen tussen zitten, ik heb ook lang niet altijd zin echte gegevens in te vullen. Maar de stuk of 15 willekeurige die ik bekeken heb zagen er allemaal redelijk echt uit. Ik zou denken dat database zo'n 250.000 echte gegevens bevatten, en dat die 55.000 mensen ook werkelijk bij CZ verzekerd zijn.
Natuurlijk heb ik vandaag even een offerte aangevraagd. Als CZ mij uitnodigd het te proberen, dan doe ik dat natuurlijk even. Maar even realistisch: dat is natuurlijk niet de manier om je beveiliging te controleren. Dat een organisatie als CZ dat suggereerd, is een beetje vreemd. Van buiten af naar een slot kijken is niet zo heel interesant. Je moet van binnen uit kijken, er goed over na denken en dan van binnen uit laten controleren. Het moet zo zijn dat je na vertrek van een medewerker alleen de wachtwoorden hoeft te veranderen, en vervolgens moet de oud medewerker er niet meer in kunnen! Als er geheime achterdeuren in zitten... geen goed idee.
Laatste saillant detail: Alle offerte downloads werden geteld door sitestat.com, een derde partij in Amsterdam.
Beetje vreemd om dat op die manier te doen, op die plaats in de web applicatie.

Google imagery of our house

Google has added most of the rest of the world satellite imagery to their online (very, very cool) maps application. Our house is there too! If you have trouble finding our house in there (not surprising, imo), the little image is a cut out of the annotated version.
I've located our immediate family on the map, which you can zoom with the slider and drag around with your mouse:
- Bas and Kylie live here. Look at the center of the image, note the five blobs (trees, actually) on the street there. The left most tree, the biggest, is directly in front of their house!
- Pauline lives here In the centre of the image is a white spot, remarkably similar to the number '1'. To the right, of the bottom part of the 1 is where she lives, over looking the middle of the lower segment of the grassland.
- For Lotte , there is a highresolution image again. But because she lives in downtown Amsterdam, but that doesn't make her house much easier to find. Just below the rail track in the middle, there are three large trees. Below them, there are some more trees - in that street, to the right of the water, look at the fourth or fifth tree. That is where she lives.
- The coolest image of the bunch must be Opa und Oma Maus. Their house is easy to spot, if you know where to look, you can almost make out the little wooden shed in their back yard! To find them, look at the Y shaped building on the right of the image. The roads from there point to a block of houses. They live in the identical block directly to the left of that. To further refine it, notice that you can distinguish four houses in that block by looking at the chimneys. The second house from the bottom is theirs! Across from them, one block farther to the left notice that one part of the rooftops looks diffent in that block, they live exactly across from that.
- Dirk and Lisel live in the Hague, in that block you see in the middle. The resolution, just isn't high enough to mark their house precisely, though.
- Thomas and Kim also live in Amsterdam, but the resolution is lower again. Look at the checkerboard pattern of houses and grass/trees in the middle to find their house. They live somewhere in the block with the long large white building at the lower side.
- There is only low res imagery of it, but René, my late father, rests here somewhere. Well, his body, anyway. In the middle, there is a brownish spike of land - I think that is the patch of farmland where there is usually corn growing. The cemetery is the little green dot on the right hand side of that, in the middle.

De Gouwzee

Pascal and Maja have been sailing with our beautiful sailingship, de Gouwzee. This ship is an old barch which used to transport all kinds of goods across centraleurope. Today we travel across the Ijsselmeer and the waddenzee with all kinds of people.
